Partial Dentures

The loss of one or more teeth can negatively impact your ability to chew and speak. Patients wishing to restore oral function have an effective restorative treatment option with partial dentures. Partial dentures can be removable or supported by dental implants. Dr. Art Carpenter offers partial dentures at his Kenilworth, IL, clinic. This solution is fully customized to fit comfortably among your remaining teeth while providing fully restored function and aesthetics.

Benefits of Partial Dentures

Partial dentures provide the benefit of restoring both the appearance and function of your smile. Once your denture is in place, you can expect to experience:

  • Prevention of teeth shifting
  • A more balanced bite
  • Improved quality of life
  • Restored comfort while chewing
  • Improve clarity of speech
  • A more attractive smile

An experienced and reputable dentist can help you take advantage of the many outstanding benefits of customized partial dentures.

Candidacy for Partial Dentures

Most individuals who are missing several teeth are candidates for partial dentures. For traditional partial dentures, patients may need strong adjacent teeth to support the prosthetic. To qualify for implant-supported dentures, candidates must have sufficient bone tissue in the jaw to support the implants. If there is insufficient bone density, a bone graft or sinus lift may be necessary to restore candidacy for implants.

Tired of suffering with the frustration of an incomplete smile? Dr. Carpenter can provide a solution that restores your appearance, repairs your smile, and helps you experience an exciting boost in self-confidence.

How Do Partial Dentures Work?

There are two types of partial dentures available: removable and implant-supported.

For removable partial dentures, Dr. Carpenter will take precise measurements and images of your jaws. This information will be used to fabricate your custom partial dentures, which can take two to four weeks. Small clasps, either made of metal or another material, hold the denture in place. Once your partial denture is ready, Dr. Carpenter will examine your bite to ensure that the denture fits correctly.

Traditional partial dentures attach to surrounding teeth with metal clasps.

Implant-supported dentures require a greater investment of time and money, but they offer unique benefits. The restoration is anchored directly to the jaw through the use of dental implants. This procedure has a longer timeline because it can take several months before your implants completely integrate with the surrounding bone tissue.

Implant posts offer the best stability for any restorations. Meanwhile, they are the only restorative dentistry solution that can stop the atrophy of bone tissue after teeth have been lost. This means your restoration will require far fewer adjustments than a traditional partial denture.

"We have been coming to Dr. Carpenter for several years now after seeing dentists that lacked good patient relationships. Dr. Carpenter is patient with those who fear going to the dentist (that's me), explains what needs to be done and provides different options for treatment. Worth the trek from the city!"
