Hope everyone is staying healthy and not been overly stressed with all the challenges we have all had over the last two months. Fortunately none of us or our families have had their health directly effected by COVID - 19. For those of you that have had any deaths or sickness in your family and friends we empathize with your pain or loss. For those of you that have had your livelihood and business effected and felt the humiliation and frustration of being told the hard work you have done to further your career and support yourself and your family is considered an extremely insulting term “non essential” we understand your frustration. What we are going through is not the “new normal” it is what we have to endure for now but we are all starting the road back to normalcy that we all crave.

We are considered essential healthcare business so we have been open and have seen many of you. We were only open to see patients with pain, infection, swelling and trauma. Under guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health we are now clear to resume a full range of dental services. We will highlight temporary changes on the included overview page. We will have a backlog of patients for awhile so if you were one of the hundreds of our guests who had their appointments cancelled with no future appointment made we will be contacting you.

I realize more than ever that all of us at the office miss everyone dearly and it has been difficult not using the talents we have been given to serve you. I just turned 50 and now I definitely realize I am nowhere near retirement and not close to being ready. For now dropping into our office to talk, read magazines, grabbing a cup of coffee is not possible. Hugs and handshakes are gone for now too but we will not live in a dehumanized society void of human touch forever.

Since we are a small boutique dental office we are uniquely qualified to thrive during the shadow of COVID - 19. We are not a clinic so we do not see multiple patients at once and we have private enclosed treatment rooms. As a dentist I have always practiced under universal precautions so the steps we have always had the proper protocol in place but we are enhancing and taken further precautions above and beyond what the Center for Disease Control recommends. Your safety and our dedicated staff’s safety is and always will be our top priority.

It is understandable if some of you still have concerns or health issues that cause you concern. Feel free to ask any questions about our cleanliness and enhanced infection control protocols. Common sense guideline have always been in place such as if you are sick or with a fever do not come to the office. I cannot think of another step we can take to ensure your safety and the staff’s safety and to reduce the chance of transmission of COVID - 19. Your health and safety is of utmost concern and is in excellent hands. No one at our office would have it any other way. Just as with previous financial crises some of you may have had your business decimated or income negatively effected. As our valued guests please do not hesitate or be embarrassed to seek treatment or receive care. Please discuss that with us. We will take care of you! It is an honor to take care of everyone and look forward to seeing everyone back at the office. Stay healthy!

Preventive Dentistry Provides Cost-Effective Care

Regular medical check-ups are an important part of your family’s well-being, and so are preventive dentistry appointments. Dr. Art Carpenter in Kenilworth, IL, provides full-service general dental care to keep the whole family smiling. Our thorough check-ups and treatments help children and adults maintain optimal oral health to prevent costly future problems.

Over 42 percent of U.S. kids will have cavities, but preventative techniques can keep your child's smile free from decay.

What is Preventive Dentistry?

Preventive dentistry allows you to catch oral health problems in the earliest stages, before they can cause a more serious condition and require extensive restorative procedures. Patients who avoid dental check-ups and cleanings may eventually require intensive dental work - but you can easily prevent this circumstance.

For children, preventive dentistry helps keep tooth decay in check to preserve the healthy structure of baby teeth and emerging permanent teeth. Over 42 percent of U.S. kids will have cavities, but preventative techniques can keep your child's smile free from decay.

Preventive dentistry for children includes:

  • Fluoride Treatments - Professional fluoride treatments provide a level of cavity protection that cannot be obtained with toothpaste and rinses, and help developing teeth to grow stronger.
  • Sealants Sealants are applied to permanent teeth to protect them from exposure to cavity-causing acids. Sealants are usually applied to back teeth, providing a protective shield where cavities commonly arise.
  • Hygienic Habits – Our dentists and hygienists help kids learn the proper brushing and flossing techniques for keeping their teeth clean and cavity free, and also provide incentives for a great check-up!

For children and adults alike, preventive dental care includes twice-a-year check-ups and cleanings. If a cavity is discovered, a dental filling will be necessary. Letting decay go untreated can result in many potential problems, including infection and tooth loss. Our dentists are gentle and caring, and offer sedation options for all dental procedures.

Comprehensive Care for Adults

Adult general treatment and check-ups at our practice always include a thorough oral cancer screening and evaluation of periodontal disease. Both these conditions are highly treatable if detected in the early stages.

Using VELscope, our doctors can detect oral cancer early and provide treatment.

Oral Cancer

Our oral cancer screenings are comprehensive, yet quick and painless. The screening includes a visual and manual exam of the mouth, head and neck, and an assessment using our advanced VELscope® system. With the handheld VELscope®, our doctors can detect abnormalities that may not be visible to the naked eye.

Periodontal Disease

Gingivitis and periodontitis are common forms of periodontal disease that should be treated early to prevent bad breath and more serious issues such as gum recession and tooth loss. Controlling gum disease is beneficial to long-term cardiac and general health. Our routine dental exams include measurement of periodontal pockets, which can be indicators of active gum infection. If needed, we also offer deep cleaning and new advanced treatment options with Perio Protect® and ARESTIN®.

"We have been coming to Dr. Carpenter for several years now after seeing dentists that lacked good patient relationships. Dr. Carpenter is patient with those who fear going to the dentist (that's me), explains what needs to be done and provides different options for treatment. Worth the trek from the city!"
