Hope everyone is staying healthy and not been overly stressed with all the challenges we have all had over the last two months. Fortunately none of us or our families have had their health directly effected by COVID - 19. For those of you that have had any deaths or sickness in your family and friends we empathize with your pain or loss. For those of you that have had your livelihood and business effected and felt the humiliation and frustration of being told the hard work you have done to further your career and support yourself and your family is considered an extremely insulting term “non essential” we understand your frustration. What we are going through is not the “new normal” it is what we have to endure for now but we are all starting the road back to normalcy that we all crave.

We are considered essential healthcare business so we have been open and have seen many of you. We were only open to see patients with pain, infection, swelling and trauma. Under guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health we are now clear to resume a full range of dental services. We will highlight temporary changes on the included overview page. We will have a backlog of patients for awhile so if you were one of the hundreds of our guests who had their appointments cancelled with no future appointment made we will be contacting you.

I realize more than ever that all of us at the office miss everyone dearly and it has been difficult not using the talents we have been given to serve you. I just turned 50 and now I definitely realize I am nowhere near retirement and not close to being ready. For now dropping into our office to talk, read magazines, grabbing a cup of coffee is not possible. Hugs and handshakes are gone for now too but we will not live in a dehumanized society void of human touch forever.

Since we are a small boutique dental office we are uniquely qualified to thrive during the shadow of COVID - 19. We are not a clinic so we do not see multiple patients at once and we have private enclosed treatment rooms. As a dentist I have always practiced under universal precautions so the steps we have always had the proper protocol in place but we are enhancing and taken further precautions above and beyond what the Center for Disease Control recommends. Your safety and our dedicated staff’s safety is and always will be our top priority.

It is understandable if some of you still have concerns or health issues that cause you concern. Feel free to ask any questions about our cleanliness and enhanced infection control protocols. Common sense guideline have always been in place such as if you are sick or with a fever do not come to the office. I cannot think of another step we can take to ensure your safety and the staff’s safety and to reduce the chance of transmission of COVID - 19. Your health and safety is of utmost concern and is in excellent hands. No one at our office would have it any other way. Just as with previous financial crises some of you may have had your business decimated or income negatively effected. As our valued guests please do not hesitate or be embarrassed to seek treatment or receive care. Please discuss that with us. We will take care of you! It is an honor to take care of everyone and look forward to seeing everyone back at the office. Stay healthy!

Lasting, Aesthetic Repair with Tooth-colored Dental Fillings

Our dental office provides modern dentistry techniques to meet the needs of every member of your family. Dr. Art Carpenter enjoys helping patients maintain a healthy, confident smile. To treat tooth decay, our practice offers composite resin dental fillings for patients in the Kenilworth, IL, area. These tooth-colored fillings blend beautifully with natural enamel and remain virtually undetectable in your smile.

About Cavities

Tooth decay affects the vast majority of Americans - studies have shown over 42 percent of U.S. children have dental caries, and 92 percent of adults have fillings or untreated decay. Cavities are caused by acid that forms on teeth when sugar and bacteria combine. The acid and our natural saliva work to soften and dissolve layers of tooth enamel, leaving a hole or cavity. It’s important to treat tooth decay promptly. Unfilled cavities can cause pain and infection, which can lead to tooth loss or need for root canal or extraction.

Our dentists only place composite resin dental fillings for our patients. For many years, amalgam was the preferred method for filling teeth. Comprised of a mix of silver and other compounds, these fillings can be quite noticeable when you smile and converse. They are also prone to darkening with age and causing tooth discoloration, in addition to causing damage when they expand and contract with heat and cold. Preparation for amalgam also requires removal of excess tooth enamel and dentin. The filling is held in place by the dimensions of the precisely drilled hole.

Tooth-colored Fillings

Today, most dentists and patients prefer non-toxic, composite resin fillings. The material is made of ceramic and plastic compounds, often with added quartz and other hard minerals for further durability. Resin is typically softer than amalgam, and was once used strictly for front teeth, but new technology has improved this restorative procedure. Enhanced composite resins are now widely used for posterior teeth as well.

Benefits of Advanced Treatment

Many patients choose to replace aging amalgam with new tooth-colored fillings. Some are uncomfortable with ‘trace’ amounts of mercury, have suffered from damage because of amalgam reacting to temperature, or simply dislike the glint of metal in their smile. Composite resin fillings can be artfully tinted to match the shade of your teeth, providing a natural, metal-free look that does not respond to heat or cold. A composite resin filling also bonds directly to the tooth, allowing the physical integrity of the tooth to remain untouched, and providing additional strength.

Experience Makes the Difference

Drs. Carpenter are highly-skilled dentists with years of experience treating tooth decay. Your dentist will first thoroughly clean your tooth and create the shade-matched compound. Once all decay has been removed we will place the composite resin and harden it with a curing light. Additional layers may be added to ensure a perfect fit, then the finished filling is polished.

We also use composite resins for cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as dental bonding to cover cracked, chipped, or discolored teeth. All dental care is provided with a gentle touch, and we offer the option of oral sedation for patients who prefer it.

"We have been coming to Dr. Carpenter for several years now after seeing dentists that lacked good patient relationships. Dr. Carpenter is patient with those who fear going to the dentist (that's me), explains what needs to be done and provides different options for treatment. Worth the trek from the city!"
